Sacramento/Black Art of Dance presents Urban Works, a dance concert featuring guest companies from the Sacramento region
Opening its 13 th season at Sacramento State, Sacramento/Black Art of Dance presents Urban Works, a dance concert featuring guest companies from the Sacramento region, at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, 8 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays in Solano Hall 1010. There will be two programs, Program A will begin on Feb. 9 to 12 and Program B will begin Feb. 15 to 19. Each weedend’s program will feature a different group of dance companies and a different array of dance pieces.
The concert will showcase the diverse range of black concert dance forms from traditional West African, Cuban and Brazilian dance to lyrical modern jazz and hip-hop.
Some of the companies represented are Celebration Arts Dance Company, Pulse Dance Company, Boogie Monster, Godly Ladies of Worship Dance Ministry, Sacramento Capoeira Academy and more.
The performance is directed by Sacramento State Professor Linda Goodrich, who founded S/BAD in 1993. The dance company celebrates the movement and music of African culture and employs the aesthetic traditions established by modern dance pioneer Katherine Dunham.
Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for Sacramento State students and $10 for seniors and high school students .
