February is Financial Aid Awareness Month

Attention Sacramento State students: Do you need money for enrollment fees, books, gas, or rent? The University’s answer is, “We can help you pay for that!”

February is “Financial Aid Awareness Month,” designed to help students complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application by the March 2 priority deadline. A week of activities will be held in the library quad as part of the event. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Feb. 4-8, students can receive financial aid information and try for one of many items on a special prize wheel, including USB drives and gift cards to the Hornet Bookstore. Four iPods will be raffled off to students who file a FAFSA application at one of two workshops Feb. 23 and 28.

“Students can still file the FAFSA application after March 2, but some funds will no longer be available due to demand,” says Craig Yamamoto, director of financial aid. “Our goal is to ensure eligible students receive the financial aid that’s out there for them. Our advice: apply now.”

The workshops are for students who need one-on-one assistance completing their FAFSA applications. These free workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Feb. 23 in Mendocino Hall Room 2007 and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 28 in Mendocino Hall Room 2004.

Students should bring the following to the workshops:

• Social Security card and driver’s license

• Federal income tax return or W-2’s for 2007

• Untaxed income records such as TANF, veteran’s benefits and Social Security benefits for 2007

• Bank account and investment records for 2007

• Alien registration card if not a U.S. citizen

Married students should bring copies of their spouse’s information, and dependent students need to bring copies of their parents’ information.
