LIFE Center offers forums,
balance classes for seniors
A series of free forums for seniors
and a new round of fall risk reduction classes begin at California
State University, Sacramento's Life Center this month. The
LIFE Center is in the University's Julia Morgan House, 3731
The monthly speaker series will be held from 1:45 to 2:45
p.m. Friday afternoons. The dates and topics are:
Feb. 22: "Love Your Posture," Marie Wilson,
licensed massage therapist, Life Enrichment Center. Learn
how to eliminate tension and pain with posture correction
March 8: "Alzheimer's," Pamela Milchrist,
CSUS kinesiology and health sciences professor. Learn physical
and social activities to improve and maintain the quality
of life for those with Alzheimer's.
April 12: "Stroke," Jancis Dennis, physical
therapist and CSUS professor of physical therapy. Learn how
to prevent stroke and how to live with one if it happens.
May 10: "Leisure Counseling," Jennifer Piatt,
recreation therapist and CSUS recreation and leisure studies
lecturer, accompanied by CSUS students. Learn about leisure
and its relation to wellness.
Two sets of seven-week Balance and Fall Risk Reduction Classes
will be offered this spring beginning in March. Nursing and
physical therapy assessments start in February. The Monday
- Wednesday class will be from 2 to 3 p.m., March 11 to May
2. The Tuesday - Thursday class will be from 10:45 to 11:45
a.m., March 12 to May 3. The cost is $95.
