Piano Fair to feature concerts, lectures
and more
California State University, Sacramento and the Piano Technicians
Guild will present a three-day piano fair, concert and lectures series from
Friday, Feb. 11 through Sunday, Feb. 13. The public is invited to attend this
free series, held in the University Union from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and
Saturday, and from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
On display at the fair will be an exhibit of some of the world's finest pianos
from Europe, North America and Asia. There will also be presentations of new
and unusual pianos, including a 97 note one-octave microtonal piano from Germany.
The concert series features renowned artists from around the globe performing
classical and jazz pieces on the pianos exhibited at the fair. Featured artists
include Sally Christian, Jim Martinez, Richard Glazier and others. Concerts
will take place in the Hinde Auditorium at various times throughout the series,
and there will be a performance by The Delbert Bump Quartet at 8 p.m. on Saturday
in the Recital Hall of Capistrano Hall.
The lectures series will cover a variety of topics, including "Life Choices
for Your Piano," "Buying or Selling a Used Piano," and "Piano
Technology as a Career." University faculty and administrators are encouraged
to attend a special Music Educators Symposium on the piano and its role at a
college or university.
