The events, which include breakfast, feature a range of guests speaking on hot topics in the Sacramento region in a low-key, off-the-record format that allows audience interaction.

Besler Heaphy heads the oldest and second-largest newspaper in the 24-paper McClatchy Company. Before joining the Bee, she held several high-level positions in advertising and marketing for the Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Magazine and Omni Magazine, including national advertising manager and senior vice president of advertising and marketing for the Times. She was named publisher and president of the Bee in 1998.

She is a member of Valley Vision; the Pride Industries Board; the American Leadership Forum Board, Mountain Valley Chapter; the Sacramento Host Committee Board; and is honorary chairperson of Children’s Receiving Home. She has served on the UC Davis Children’s Hospital Executive Board of Advisors, the Morning Group (representatives from the top 13 daily newspapers in the United States), the Advertising Council Board, the Advertising Club of New York, the Los Angeles Times Women in Management Executive Board and the Advertising Club of Los Angeles Board.

Besler Heaphy holds both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

The next speaker in this year’s Breakfast Club series will be River City Bank President-CEO Jeanne Reaves on May 3. The Breakfast Club is sponsored by River City Bank and supported by the Communication Studies Chapter of the Alumni Association.

The events are free to Alumni Association members and $15 for non-members. Seating is limited. For reservations or additional information, contact the Alumni Association at (916) 278-6295.
