Bee publisher next at ‘Breakfast Club’
Sacramento Bee Publisher and President Janis Besler
Heaphy will be the next speaker in the Breakfast Club Speakers Series, hosted
by the California State University, Sacramento Alumni Association. Besler Heaphy
will speak at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 8 in the Alumni Center on campus.

The events, which include breakfast, feature a range of guests
speaking on hot topics in the Sacramento region in a low-key, off-the-record
format that allows audience interaction.
Besler Heaphy heads the oldest and second-largest newspaper in the 24-paper
McClatchy Company. Before joining the Bee, she held several high-level
positions in advertising and marketing for the Los Angeles Times, Los
Angeles Magazine and Omni Magazine, including national advertising
manager and senior vice president of advertising and marketing for the Times.
She was named publisher and president of the Bee in 1998.
She is a member of Valley Vision; the Pride Industries Board; the American Leadership
Forum Board, Mountain Valley Chapter; the Sacramento Host Committee Board; and
is honorary chairperson of Children’s Receiving Home. She has served on
the UC Davis Children’s Hospital Executive Board of Advisors, the Morning
Group (representatives from the top 13 daily newspapers in the United States),
the Advertising Council Board, the Advertising Club of New York, the Los
Angeles Times Women in Management Executive Board and the Advertising Club
of Los Angeles Board.
Besler Heaphy holds both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education
from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
The next speaker in this year’s Breakfast Club series will be River City
Bank President-CEO Jeanne Reaves on May 3. The Breakfast Club is sponsored by
River City Bank and supported by the Communication Studies Chapter of the Alumni
Association.
The events are free to Alumni Association members and $15 for non-members. Seating
