Prevention program to honor CSUS student Jesse Snow

An event to honor the memory of Jesse Snow through the creation of a memorial fund will be held at California State University, Sacramento at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 in the Yamshon Alumni Center. The media is welcome to attend.

Snow, a 20-year-old CSUS student, was fatally injured in October 2001, following an evening drinking at the Chevys restaurant located on Howe Avenue near the campus. At the behest of his parents, Stephen Snow and Patricia Metzger-Snow, Chevys is making a $50,000 donation available to CSUS. The Sacramento area director for the restaurant, Stewart Ollikkala, will make the presentation at the event.

That money will be used for programs to make students aware of the risks associated with the use of alcohol. The nature of the prevention program, developed in collaboration with the CSUS Associated Students, will be announced at the event by Eric Guerra, president of the Associated Students.

The parents, who will attend the event and be available to the media, have said they hope the donation will help prevent future tragedies.

Friends of Jesse Snow are also expected to attend.

Media assistance is available from the CSUS public affairs office at
(916) 278-6156.
