Sacramento State’s Music Department presents a variety of musical events for the University’s annual Festival of the Arts, March 12-15. The Festival is a four-day focus on performances, exhibitions, lectures and readings from the art, design, English, music and theatre and dance departments.

The music begins at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 12, with the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, performing as part of the department’s New Millennium Music Series. The quartet is a master of the classics and has created a unique blend of world music and contemporary styles, says professor Andrew Luchansky, the New Millennium artistic director.

“They are so fluent in so many genres,” Luchansky says. “As a string quartet player I admire their air-tight ensemble playing combined with the joy they take in making music together.”

Tickets are $20 general admission and $5 for students.

The Sacramento State Jazz Ensemble continues the good times at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 13, with special guest artist Dave Pietro on the saxophone. Pietro has played lead saxophone with the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra and performed or recorded with musicians such as Ray Charles, Blood Sweat & Tears, Chaka Khan, Woody Herman and The Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for students and seniors.

Both concerts are in the Music Recital Hall of Capistrano Hall.
