CSUS celebrates Women’s History Month

• Dolores Huerta brings her message to campus
• Panel to discuss feminism’s ‘Third Wave’
• Women's History Month Events

California State University, Sacramento will celebrate Women’s History Month in March with an eclectic mix of events and exhibits that both honor women’s accomplishments and explore new issues and avenues of feminist thought.

“We’re trying to cover subjects that people wouldn’t normally think about,” says organizer Jessica Heskin of the CSUS Women’s Resource Center. Those subjects include “Women in the Prison Industrial Complex,” a discussion and film in the University Union’s Hinde Auditorium at noon on Tuesday, March 16, and a panel discussion on “Third-Wave Feminism” featuring Megan Seely, president of the California chapter of the National Organization for Women at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 30, in the University Union Orchard Room.

One of the highlights of the month will be a talk by Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America and a leading civil rights activist. Huerta will speak in the University Union Ballroom at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 25.

Jazz vocalist Kitty Margolis will bring her acclaimed mix of cutting-edge, “left coast” jazz to the University Union Ballroom at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 18. Tickets are $10 general and $8 for students and seniors and are available at the CSUS Ticket Office at (916) 278-4323 or at Tickets.com.

In addition, the celebration includes art exhibitions, international and Native American music and dance, talks about women in Islam and in the comic book industry and a roundtable discussion about women’s leadership featuring women in government, academia, non-profit organizations and business.
