Clarinet Recital Features
Faculty clarinetist Deborah Pittman presents a musical celebration of Black History Month at 8 p.m., Monday, Feb.26 in the Music Recital Hall at California State University, Sacramento.
Featured in the program will be two new works written by Pittman, as well as Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's "Quintet for Clarinet and Strings", performed with the CSUS resident string Quartet, The Sun Quartet. Additional guest performers on Pittman's compositions will include CSUS faculty members Laurel Zucker on flute and Dan Kennedy on percussion.
Pittman has held orchestral positions in the Sacramento Symphony, Brooklyn Philharmonic, Orchestra of New York, State Symphony of Mexico, and the pit of several Broadway productions. She is a professor of clarinet at CSUS and has recently composed "Niam: Portrait of Gnome", which was performed in the fall of 1999 with the CSUS Symphony Orchestra, the Richard Bay Puppets, and the 'Sacramento Black Art of Dance.'
