Phone service out to parts of campus during break

Telephone service will be disrupted for some parts of campus during the early part of spring break.

At 6 p.m., Friday, March 18 the University’s Computing and Communications division, assisted by more than 40 engineers and technicians, will move the campus telephone system to its new home in the Academic Information Resource Center building.

As a result, much of the main core of the campus will not have telephone service March 18-22. Service should return to full operations by 8 a.m., Wednesday, March 23.

However, because the telephone system is modularized, some parts of the University will remain on-line providing limited in- and out-bound calling both on and off campus. Buildings that will have near normal telephone service are: Amador Hall, Art Sculpture Lab, Bicycle Compound, Capital Public Radio, Child Development Center, El Dorado Hall, Environmental Health and Safety, Field House, Limited areas of Library North, Modoc Hall, Napa Hall, Parking Structure II, Placer Hall Public Service, Radio Chemistry, Residence Halls, Santa Clara Hall, Sequoia Hall, Tahoe Hall, University Union, and 7700 & 7750 College Town.

The campus high-speed data backbone network is also scheduled to move starting at 6 p.m., Friday, March 18. This includes SacLink as well as some web-based services. However, these services will be up and running at 8 a.m., Monday, March 21.
