Hear the world in its own words
Languages from around the world will fill the air during
the third annual World Language Day, to be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on
Saturday, April 30 at California State University, Sacramento. The free event
includes food, music, art, dance, plays, information booths, workshops, demonstrations
and more.
Last year’s event featured attractions such as Japanese origami lessons,
flags of the world, puppet shows, games, a French café, mini-dramas and
plays, salsa dancing lessons, short films, tai-chi, Swiss polka, Irish and Peruvian
music, and henna tattoos. Many of the same presenters are expected to return
for this year’s event.
The outdoor activities will take place in the Library Quad and the workshops
will be held in Eureka and Mariposa Halls. Workshops, parking, and activities
are free and open to the public. Registration for the workshops is available
online at www.csus.edu/worldlanguageday.
The event’s organizers are still seeking entertainers, presenters or vendors
to participate in the event. Members of the community, cultural groups, clubs,
and high school or college students are encouraged to participate. The last
day to register online as a presenter or entertainer is April 2.
