Sacramento State Art Professor Andrew Connelly will present
his sculpture entitled “Indifferent Space” at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 27
in the Art Sculpture Lab, Room 110. Connelly will speak about the trials and
tribulations of designing, fabricating and constructing his work, which will
eventually be installed in New York.
Anne Naldrett, Associate curator of the Nelson Gallery at UC
Davis, will speak about her recent work in a lecture called “Diva Screams:
Sound Sculpture” at 6 p.m. on March 2 in Mariposa Hall, Room 1000. Naldrett’s
work focuses on opera and its relationship to culture and social interactions.
Her work has been reviewed by publications nationwide and has been displayed
in exhibitions throughout the country and the world.
Folk artist William T. Wiley, renowned for his vibrant and abstract
paintings, prints and drawings will lecture at 6:30 p.m. on March 23 in Mariposa
Hall, Room 1000. Wiley is a respected member of the Northern California art
community and his work contains references to diverse sources of inspiration
from to Zen Buddhism to environmental concerns.
Sacramento State Art Professor Robert Ortbal will give a presentation
about his work at 6:30 p.m. on March 30 in the Art Sculpture Lab, Room 110.
Ortbal creates objects and installations that explore the distinct and interrelated
worlds of natural phenomena and human nature. Ortbal’s work has been in
various galleries in the Bay Area including the San Francisco Museum of Modern
Art.
Media artist Ed Osborn, who has performed, exhibited, lectured
and held residency internationally, will also visit Sacramento State to speak
about his work at 6:30 p.m. on April 6 in Mariposa Hall, Room 1000. From rumbling
fans and noisy train sets to squirming music boxes, Osborn’s pieces are
playful, oblique and engaging. He has received grants from institutions including
the Guggenheim Foundation, the Creative Work Fund and Arts International.
