Sacramento State to honor alums for
service to campus and community

Eight all-star alumni of Sacramento State—including CBS “Early Show” host Rene Syler and tennis coach Bill Campbell—will be honored at the annual Distinguished Service Awards at 6:30 p.m., Thursday April 6 at the Alumni Center on campus. The event is a highlight of April’s Alumni Month festivities, which celebrate the University’s alumni.

The awards single out former Sacramento State students who have “brought distinction to themselves and the University through their accomplishments.” This year’s honorees are:

Lifetime Achievement Award: William Campbell III (’67 and ’70) Co-owner Spare Time, Inc., and Coach, Sacramento State Hornets Women’s Tennis Team.

Distinguished Service Awards:

  • Jack Bertolucci, (‘50). Retired Vice President and Regional Manager for Norris, Beggs and Simpson.
  • Patrick P. Fenwick, (‘61 and ‘71) District Administrator for Arden Park Recreation and Park District.
  • Jack Higdon, (‘52) Chairman of the Board of California Moving Systems.
  • Theresa “Terri” A. Parker, (‘76) Executive Director of the California Housing Finance Agency.
  • Randall E. Reynoso, (’80) President and COO of Placer Sierra/Sacramento Commercial Bank.
  • Rene Syler (‘87), Co-anchor of CBS News’ “The Early Show.”

Distinguished Faculty Award: Marilyn Hopkins, (’70) Dean of the College of Health and Human Services.

Tickets for the Distinguished Service Awards are $100 per person, $800 for tables of eight and $1,000 for tables of 10. Reservations can be made by calling (916) 278-6295 by March 28.
