From Handel to Radiohead at CSUS Concert
From classical to rock-and-roll, California State University,
Sacramento brings music diversity to life with the XY Collective
- a newly formed chamber ensemble that performs the works
of Handel, John Cage, Thelonius Monk, Frank Zappa and Radiohead.
The concert is at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 14 at the Music
Recital Hall in Capistrano Hall.
The band is includes pianist, violinist and composer John
Ferguson, French horn player Song Lee Halbeisen, percussionist
Bruce Hamilton and tenor Murray Kidd.
John Ferguson has bachelor's degrees in both piano and violin
from the University of the Pacific, as well as a doctorate
in piano from Indiana University. He currently resides in
Boston where he teaches piano, violin and composition at several
colleges and community music schools.
Song Lee Halbeisen, a recent graduate from Indiana University,
studied French horn at the University of Michigan. She teaches
horn and piano at the Creative Arts Music School in Redding,
Mass.
Bruce Hamilton has degrees in composition and percussion from
Indiana University and has received many honors, awards and
commissions for his published music. As a percussionist, Hamilton
has performed solo and in chamber concerts around the country.
Murray Kidd has performed with the Handel and Haydn Society
of Boston. Kidd is a voice instructor at Boston College, University
of Massachusetts in Boston and Eastern Nazarene College.
Tickets are $19 general and $8 student and senior. Tickets
