State Hornet honored in California media competition

Sacramento State’s student newspaper, The State Hornet, made a strong showing at this year’s California College Media Association competition, receiving 18 honors for a variety of categories including page design, news, sports, arts and entertainment.

Winners in the staff category were:

• 1st Place – Best News-Page Design
• 1st Place – Best Sports-Page Design
• 2nd place – Best Overall Design
• 3rd place – General Web Site Excellence
• 3rd Place – General Excellence

Individual awards include:

• 1st Place - Best Photo Illustration – Tony Weaver
• 1st Place - Best Infographic – Tony Weaver
• 1st Place - Best News Series – Elizabeth Wilson
• 1st place - Best Sports Story – Nick Lozito
• 1st place - Best Sports Column – John Parker
• 1st place - Best Arts and Entertainment Story – Nate Miller

The State Hornet also won second, third and honorable mention awards for best infographic, photo illustration, sports photograph, news series, news feature series and breaking news story.

The newspaper also received an honorable mention in the Associated Collegiate Press' national Newspaper of the Year competition, awarded on Sunday.
