‘Singin’ In The Rain’ cast shares stage secrets
California State University, Sacramento
students will join cast members of “Singin’ In the Rain” at
noon on Friday, March 18 in the University Theatre for the last “Conversations
With” of the semester. The event will bring members of the upcoming California
Musical Theatre Broadway Series production on campus for a free lecture and
Dance and theatre students will get to ask questions from associate director and choreographer Jayme McDaniel (“Chicago,” “They’re Playing Our Song,” “The Merry Widow”) in a Q-and-A session and participate in a master dance class led by cast member Stephen Reed (“Once Upon a Mattress,” “Crazy For You,” “Cats”), learning what it really takes to succeed in show business.
A collaborative effort between the Theatre and Dance department, its alumni chapter and California Musical Theatre, “Conversations With” has brought professionals from touring performances such as “Flower Drum Song,” “Big River,” and “42nd Street” to the campus since fall 2003.
The concept for “Conversations With” was created by the late professor Bob Smart – one of the most influential theater teachers in the Sacramento area during his 35 years of teaching – who never got to see his dream come to fruition.
“It’s an opportunity students wouldn’t get without CMT,” says Ed Brazo, Musical Theatre professor. “The information is priceless for the students, and it’s good for them to hear how others have developed their own careers and become successful at it.”
The Q-and-A session will be at noon, and the master dance class focusing on tap will be at 1 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
