The ambassador’s presentation is sponsored by the Center for Hellenic Studies, and is free and open to the public. Evriviades will take questions from the audience, and wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served at 8:30 p.m. following the speech and discussion.

Located in the Eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus is currently an island divided between its two main communities, the Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

Evriviades will discuss the economic, political, business and social implications of Cyprus’ admission into the European Union last May. He will also address the admission’s effects on the Turkish controlled northern part of Cyprus.

Evriviades has served as the republic’s ambassador to the United States since October 2003. Prior to his appointment, he served as the republic’s ambassador to The Netherlands and to Israel. He joined the diplomatic service in 1976, and has held senior positions at Cypriot embassies in Germany, Libya and Russia. Evriviades holds a master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, where he attended as a Fulbright Scholar, and holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire.
