Latin and Jazz at CSUS Festival of the Arts

The
big band music of the great Dizzy Gillespie fills the halls
at California State University, Sacramento at 8 p.m., Friday,
April 12 in the University Union Ballroom. The concert, featuring
internationally acclaimed trumpet player Jon Faddis with the
CSUS Latin and jazz ensembles, is part of the 10th annual
Festival of the Arts.
Faddis has recorded with many bands including the Duke Ellington
Orchestra and the Bill Evan's Band. He served as music director
and conductor for various jazz bands including the Carnegie
Hall Centennial Band.
At 15, Faddis first played with Gillespie's band. At 18 he
was a featured soloist with Lonel Hapton and the Thad Jones/Mel
Lewis Big Band. In 2000, Faddis conducted the San Francisco
Symphony Orchestra and Chorus in Duke Ellington's "Sacred
Music." Faddis is a professor and artist in residence
at the Purchase Conservatory of Music, Suny-Purchase.
Tickets are $15 general, $8 for student and seniors. Tickets
