Event
honors local education supporters
The
California State University, Sacramento College of Education will
honor a number of local educators, community members, business leaders,
organizations and alumni at their annual awards banquet set for
6:30 p.m., Friday, April 25 at the Steven Yamshon Alumni Center.
Receiving a special tribute will be CSUS President Dr. Donald R.
Gerth, who will be honored for his more than 40 years of commitment
to education in California.
Educator of the Year awards will be presented to: Bruce Armes, San
Juan Unified School District Alliance for Excellence; Juanita Sendejas-Lopez,
Elk Grove Unified School District; Catherine Goins and Sharon Neese,
SETA/Head Start; and Francie Tidey, Sacramento County Office of
Education.
Community Partner of the Year awards will be presented to: the Mexican
American Alcoholism Program; conductor Eugene Castillo and the Camellia
Symphony Orchestra; Shriners Hospital for Children, Northern California;
deputy probation officers Jim Hughes and Peter Lubinsky, Sacramento
County; and Eleni Tsakopoulos-Kounalakis.
Business Partner of the Year awards will be presented to: Borders
Books, Elk Grove; EDS Corporation; Maloof Sports and Entertainment;
Mervyn’s, Rancho Cordova; and Karen Isenhower, Office of Statewide
Planning and Development.
The Alumni Partner of the Year award will be presented to Dennis
Tillett, superintendent, North Sacramento School District.
Tickets to the event are $50 each or $350 for a table of eight.
Sponsorships are available. Proceeds help support the CSUS College
of Education scholarship program.
