- Village People to rock Sacramento State’s Alumni Month - Canceled
The Village People
Iconic disco group The Village People—featuring Sacramento
State alum David Hodo—will bring the “YMCA” to the University
Union Ballroom at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 6 as part of Alumni Month activities
on campus.
As part of The Village People, Hodo made music history during the 1970s with
the performers’ campy but respected take on diverse stereotypes. He has
portrayed The Village People’s “construction worker” since
the group’s 1977 inception in New York’s Greenwich Village.
Hodo graduated from Sacramento State in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree
in speech. His appearance is one of many Alumni Month events in April which
recognize Sacramento State alumni and their achievements.
With hits like “Macho Man” and “In the Navy,” The Village
People have sold millions of recordings and still perform all over the world
today. The group remains strong here and abroad, having recently performed during
Cher’s farewell tour in 2004, and in Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy,
Mexico and Portugal. Their worldwide popularity was in evidence during the closing
ceremony of the Torino Olympics when athletes and spectators “spelled
along” when the group’s “YMCA” was played.
Tickets are $30 general, $25 for Sacramento State Alumni Association members
and $20 for Sacramento State students. They are available from the Sacramento
State Ticket Office at (916) 278-4323 or Tickets.com.
Media assistance is available by contacting the Sacramento State public affairs
office at (916) 278-6156.
