April is Alumni Month at Sacramento State and this year’s celebration will feature a number of music and sporting events and alumni stars such as Rene Syler from the “Early Show” on CBS and David Hodo from The Village People.

Eight outstanding Sacramento State alumni—including Syler and tennis coach Bill Campbell—will be honored at the annual Distinguished Service Awards at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 6 at the Alumni Center on campus. The awards will commend former Sacramento State students who have “brought distinction to themselves and the University through their accomplishments.” This year’s honorees are Campbell who will be honored for lifetime achievement, Jack Bertolucci, Patrick Fenwick, Jack Higdon, Theresa Parker, Randall Reynoso, Syler and Marilyn Hopkins who will receive the Distinguished Faculty Award. Tickets for the event are $100 per person, $800 for tables of eight and $1,000 for tables of 10. Reservations can be made by calling (916) 278-6295 by March 28.

On “Green and Gold Day” on April 12, students, alumni, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear Sacramento State’s colors. A prize patrol will be on the prowl on campus to give out surprises for showing Hornet pride.

Another feature of Alumni Month is the second annual “Sacramento State Night with the River Cats” at 7:05 p.m., Thursday, April 20 at Raley Field. Students, alumni, the Dance Team and mascot Herky the Hornet will be on hand throughout the game. Seating in sections 102 and 101 and on the outfield lawn will be saved for Sacramento State fans. Tickets are $13, $9 and $6.

Alumni Month will close with an Alumni Member Reception from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 25 at the Alumni Center where fellow alumni can mingle and meet the new executive director of the Alumni Association, Gary Davis. Wine and appetizers from alumni-owned businesses will be served.

A wide variety of music performances will also be available to Alumni Association members at a discount during April. Members will get $3 off performances by the Sacramento State Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Sacramento State Jazz Ensemble and percussionist Daniel Kennedy. Other concerts with Alumni Association member rates include the Sacramento State Opera Theatre’s “The Other Women…” and the Sacramento State Vocal Jazz concert. Members also receive a $2 discount on pianist Gwendolyn Mok’s guest performance. Performance dates and times can be found at www.csus.edu/events.
