Supermodel Turned Activist
To Discuss Violence and the Media
Supermodel turned activist Ann Simonton
will speak on "Sex, Power and the Media" at 11:45
a.m., Tuesday, April 3 in the University Union Orchard Suite
at California State University, Sacramento.
Simonton is a leading authority on the effects of media images,
and the founder and director of Media Watch. She has traveled
nationwide presenting her views on the consequences of violent
media images. Her educational videos are widely praised, and
the latest, Don't Be a TV, received the Silver Apple Award
from the National Educational Video and Film Festival.
Simonton walked away from a lucrative modeling career after
her life was transformed by a gang rape at knifepoint. She
now dedicates herself to exposing what she says is the media's
role in promoting discrimination and violence.
