Three to be honored at 12th annual Africa Peace Awards
Maulana Karega,
creator of Pan African cultural holiday Kwanzaa, will be among those honored
Saturday, May 1 at the 12th annual Africa Peace Awards Dinner and Dance in the
University Union Ballroom on the campus of California State University, Sacramento.
Also being honored will be neighborhood activist Marilyn McGinnis for her “distinguished
leadership and service in building bridges among multicultural groups,”
according to the selection committee. In addition Kaiser Permanente women’s
health physician Dr. Camillus Udoffia will be acknowledged for delivering hundreds
of children to the community and being a leader to the immigrant African populace
the committee said.
A VIP reception will start at 6 p.m. followed by the dinner and program at 7
p.m. with the dance beginning at 9:30 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by
J-ON Harris and Voices Choir and later by the Brubeck Jazz Sextet.
Admission for all three events is $50 while the dinner and dance portion alone
