Weightlifting Legend to Visit Campus
Sacramento native Tommy Kono, considered
by many one of the best Olympic weightlifters in U.S. history,
will dispense advice at a free seminar at California State
University, Sacramento Thursday, April 12. The event will
be from 6 to 8 p.m. in Solano Hall 1020.
Kono, who now lives in Hawaii, is a three-time Olympic medallist.
He won a gold in 1952 in Helsinki, a gold in 1956 in Melbourne
and a silver in 1960 in Rome.
Making Kono's story all the more interesting is that he won
his first gold just a few short years after being detained
at the Tule Lake internment camp during World War II.
