University loft living coming for
Sacramento State students
The nearly completed Upper Eastside Lofts on 65th Street will soon be the newest Sacramento State student housing, campus officials announced today.

Under a new agreement, the lofts will serve as a near-campus student community for at least the next 15 years. They will be ready for students to move in by the upcoming fall semester, and reservations are now being accepted.
The project—part of a campus effort to expand housing options—is one of three projects underway, including a new on-campus residence hall and a University Housing Village for faculty and staff, about a mile off campus.
More than 440 students will be able to live in the Lofts. Residential advisors will live in units on site, and residential life programs will be integrated with other campus life programs.
“This is a great opportunity to offer a variety of housing options to our students,” says Ed Jones, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, Campus Life. “The Upper Eastside Lofts combine the traditional community living model with an upscale housing design. We like to think of these apartments as a ‘preview’ of what our students will live in, on their own, once they graduate and enter the world as working professionals.”
University Enterprises Development Group, an auxiliary of Sacramento State, entered into the 15-year master lease for the Upper Eastside Lofts, as well as a management agreement with student management company Allen & O’Hara for the residential program of the project.
“We think this is an innovative solution to the University’s need for more student housing, and we’re proud of our role in helping it happen,” says Matt Altier, executive director of University Enterprises, Inc.
The project is located in the city’s new University Transit Village redevelopment zone on the corner of Folsom Boulevard and 65th Street. The property is zoned as both commercial and residential. A total of six retail live/work units will be in the front of the property, facing 65th Street, and a 10,655 square foot building will face Folsom Boulevard. The 135 residential units will be located in the back of the property. Students can reserve their spots now, and the units will be ready for them to move in for the fall 2007 semester.
The units’ interiors have an “urban loft” design with high, open ceilings, a large living space, full kitchens with modern appliances and granite and stainless steel finishes, an in-unit laundry, balconies and study areas. The average unit space is more than 700 square feet. The community includes a swimming pool and club house.
The units will be furnished and all utilities paid.
The lofts are located within easy biking and walking distance to the campus. It is adjacent to light rail, and the planned Sac State Tram will make stops in front of the lofts. Through the City’s effort to transform this area, many new restaurant and retail choices are already available – with many more coming, including those that may be placed within the new Sacramento State student community.
Allen & O’Hara, a professional student housing management company, will be responsible for leasing the units and managing the residential program while working closely with campus Student Housing programs. The leasing office will be located on campus at the Del Rio Suite in the River Front Center.
