Anchorperson Mendonsa to address ‘Breakfast Club’
News 10 anchor
and California State University, Sacramento alumna Cristina Mendonsa will talk
about “An Eighteen-Year Journey from Sac State to News Ten” at the
next installment of the Breakfast Club Speakers Series, hosted by the CSUS Alumni
Association. Mendonsa will speak at 7:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 11 in the Alumni
Center on campus.
The free events, which include breakfast, feature a range of guests speaking
on hot topics in the Sacramento region in a low-key, off-the-record format that
allows audience interaction.
For the last six years Mendonsa has anchored the KXTV’s 5 p.m. and 11
p.m. newscasts. She has received numerous professional honors including two
Emmy Awards – including one for a consumer protection series on identity
theft. She was awarded three Best of Gannett awards for breaking and investigative
journalism and was part of the team that earned a national Murrow Award for
coverage of the papal visit to Denver.
She has been nominated for Emmy awards in both anchoring and producing and received
the Hispanic Salute award from the Bureau of Land Management for her focus on
Latino issues. Her 1996 series on wilderness survival earned recognition from
the U.S. Congress. She attended Metro College in Denver and has a degree in
government and journalism from CSUS.
Her talk is sponsored by the Communications Chapter of the CSUS Alumni Association.
