Trio to turn heads in campus performance

The Beaux Arts Trio, an elite group of international musicians, will perform as part of the Music Department’s New Millennium Series at Sacramento State at 8 p.m., Monday, April 24 in the Music Recital Hall in Capistrano Hall.

Now in its 51st season, the Beaux Arts Trio has a distinguished history, a comprehensive repertoire and an expansive discography. Regarded by critics as the hallmark of chamber music, the group has evolved while preserving its distinctive musical heritage.

German pianist Menahem Pressler has performed with the group since its inception in 1955. His career spans almost five decades after winning first prize in the Debussy International Piano Competition in San Francisco in 1946. Born in Brazil, cellist Antonio Meneses joined the trio in 1998 and added to the group’s prestige. Meneses has won many high-profile awards and performs regularly with some of the world’s greatest orchestras, such as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Daniel Hope, a British violinist, joined the group in 2002 after electrifying audiences in the United States and Europe with his award-winning tours. He has been noted for his creative brilliance in BBC Music and The New York Times and was nominated for two Grammy Awards in 2005.

The Beaux Arts Trio will perform music from Beethoven, Shostakovich and Mendelssohn.

Tickets for the concert are $25 and are available at the Sacramento State Ticket office at (916) 278-4323. For more information, contact Glenn Disney at (916) 278-6515 and for media assistance contact the Public Affairs office at (916) 278-6156.
