‘Day of Percussion’ sets campus rhythm

A day of rousing rhythm is set for California State University, Sacramento when its percussion studies department presents “Day of Percussion” from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, April 17 at Capistrano Hall.

A variety of outstanding guest artists will be featured, including marimba virtuoso Jack van Geem, L.A.’s famed MIDI percussion specialist Amy Knoles, the innovative hand-drum duo Tabla Rasa, music business and recording specialist Eric Chun, and drum-set artist/clinician Floyd Kennedy, according to CSUS professor Daniel Kennedy, director of percussion studies and the festival. His CSUS Percussion Group will also perform.

Demonstrations, workshops and talks by percussion artists are scheduled throughout the day. Topics include electronic percussion and video technology, rhythmic concepts of Indian drumming and studio drumming recording techniques. Lunch will be served as well.

The day closes at with a bring-your-own-instrument drum circle led by Tabla Rasa. Participation in the circle is free and open to all.
