Acclaimed author to speak on campus

Acclaimed author William T. Vollmann will be the featured speaker at the annual meeting of the Friends of the Library at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18 in Sacramento State’s University Library Gallery. The event is free and open to the public.

Vollmann is the author of sixteen books of fiction and journalism. His epic novel, Europe Central, won the 2005 National Book Award. His most recent work, Poor People, has won critical acclaim in periodicals such as the San Francisco Chronicle and the New York Times. His language, plots and characters have brought comparisons to Tolstoy, Dickens and Faulkner.

The Friends of the Library is a group whose mission is to help the University Library meet the growing and changing needs of the campus and the community. Since its founding, the group has established the Book Bin, a permanent book sale area on the Library’s lower level; established a monthly book group; hosted special events and presentations by well-known writers; and raised and donated funds for library materials and needs. Its annual meeting is part of the celebration of National Library Week.

For membership and general information about the Friends of the Library, contact Sally Hitchcock at (916) 278-5954 or visit library.csus.edu/friends.

For media requests, contact the Sacramento State public affairs office at (916) 278-6156.
