Nigerian to Address
Africa Peace Awards
Nigerian Ambassador Jibril Aminu will
be the keynote speaker at California State University Sacramento's
10th annual Africa Peace Awards Dinner and Dance Fund-raiser,
Saturday, May 5 at the Masonic Temple, 1123 J Street. The
event will begin with a VIP reception at 6:30 p.m., with dinner
at 7:30 p.m.
In addition to the speech by Aminu, of the Nigerian Embassy
in Washington, D.C., the event will honor Daniel Yamshon,
Thelma Johnson and Patricia Malberg, along with the CSUS Youth
Mentors and African Peace Organizations. Yamshon, Johnson
and Malberg lead workshops on conflict resolution for the
CSUS Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution.
Previous award-winners include Archbishop Desmond Tutu, best-selling
author Cornel West and former NBA star Kevin Johnson.
The event will feature African food, a cultural/fashion show
and entertainment. Advance tickets are $30 for dinner, program
and dancing and $45 with the addition of the VIP reception
and are available at the CSUS Ticket Office at (916) 278-4323
or tickets.com, and other area locations. Tickets at the door
are $35 and $50.
The event is sponsored by the CSUS Center for African Peace
and Conflict Resolution and proceeds benefit the U.S.-Africa
Youth, Peace and Cultural Education Program. For more information,
