Choirs aim for the high notes at concert

The Sacramento State choirs and Symphony Orchestra will make their Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts debut as part of the University's annual "Choralfest" at 8 p.m. Sunday, May 1.

The celebration of choral singing features a wide variety of choral music, performed by more than 300 singers and musicians, including the University Chorus, Concert Choir and Chamber Choir, under the direction of Sacramento State professor Donald Kendrick.

The concert will also feature the West Coast premiere of composer Rene Clausen's Memorial, a cantata for chorus and orchestra dedicated to victims of Sept. 11, which will be conducted by Sacramento State professor Leo Eylar. The piece was commissioned by the American Choral Director's Association.

Tickets are $20 general and $10 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the Mondavi Center Box Office at 1-866-754-2787 or at www.mondaviarts.org.
