Take a ‘world-wind’ tour of language

Language students and teachers are invited to attend the second annual World Language Day taking place at California State University, Sacramento, starting at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 8 in Mariposa Hall.

Highlights of the day will include special workshops for language teachers as well as a session on Buddhism in Asia, a virtual tour of France, lessons in Japanese origami and Swiss polka dancing. The day ends with a “Parade of Nations.”

Among the languages represented will be Italian, Korean, Spanish and American Sign Language. Also featured will be the University’s foreign language lab in Mariposa Hall 2000. A special session on the foreign language proficiency requirement will also be presented by the CSUS foreign language department.

Food and drink will be available from Java City, Andy Nguyen’s II Vietnamese food, The Greek Village Inn and The Italian Importing Company.

The event is held “to promote foreign language proficiency, to support language teachers and to give language students an opportunity to demonstrate their skills,” said event coordinator Kathy Moore.

For more information, contact the foreign languages department at (916) 278-6333 or visit their website at www.csus.edu/worldlanguageday. For media assistance, contact CSUS public affairs at (916) 278-6156.
