Take a ‘world-wind’ tour of language
Language students
and teachers are invited to attend the second annual World Language Day taking
place at California State University, Sacramento, starting at 9 a.m., Saturday,
May 8 in Mariposa Hall.
Highlights of the day will include special workshops for language teachers as
well as a session on Buddhism in Asia, a virtual tour of France, lessons in
Japanese origami and Swiss polka dancing. The day ends with a “Parade
of Nations.”
Among the languages represented will be Italian, Korean, Spanish and American
Sign Language. Also featured will be the University’s foreign language
lab in Mariposa Hall 2000. A special session on the foreign language proficiency
requirement will also be presented by the CSUS foreign language department.
Food and drink will be available from Java City, Andy Nguyen’s II Vietnamese
food, The Greek Village Inn and The Italian Importing Company.
The event is held “to promote foreign language proficiency, to support
language teachers and to give language students an opportunity to demonstrate
their skills,” said event coordinator Kathy Moore.
