Otis Scott: dean of the College of Social Science

Otis Scott has been named dean of the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies at Sacramento State. For the last year Scott has served as the College’s acting dean.

"As acting dean, Dr. Scott has led with distinction,” says Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Ric Brown. “In this new capacity, I look forward to a continued high level of contribution by the College's faculty and staff to the mission of the University."

Prior to being appointed acting dean, Scott, a Sacramento State alumnus, served three years as the associate dean. He chaired the Ethnic Studies Department for 21 years and was the coordinator of the Social Science Program.

Scott holds both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in government from Sacramento State and a doctorate in African American studies from Union Graduate School in Cincinnati.

His published work includes four books as well as book chapters, book reviews and journal articles. He has also presented numerous conference papers. He is a past president of the National Association for Ethnic Studies and currently serves as the editor of the association’s journal. This spring he was inducted into the honor society Phi Kappa Phi as the outstanding faculty initiate.

The appointment will be for two years.
