Student newspaper wins top awards

The award-winning student newspaper of Sacramento State, The State Hornet, picked up 11 honors in the non-daily newspaper category in the 2004-05 California College Media Competition, sponsored by the California College Media Association.

The State Hornet placed in the following categories:

• First place, "Best Overall Design"
• First place, "Best Sports Page Design"
• First place, "Best Sports Story," written by Jimmy Spencer
• First place, "Best Sports Photo," taken by Ken Larmon

Other awards included second place in "Best Features Page Design," "Best Online News Coverage" and "Best Feature Photo."

Entries submitted by student newspapers at member universities were judged by representatives from the Los Angeles Times, San Jose Mercury News and The Sacramento Bee. Online newspaper entries were judged by The Orange County Register.
