Support for breast cancer survivors
aim of Aquatic Center event

Enhancing the lives of breast cancer survivors and members of their support networks is the focus of “An Opportunity to Thrive,” a special learn-to-row class at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center. The session will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday June 3 and 4 on Lake Natoma. The Aquatic Center is at 1901 Hazel Ave. in Gold River.

Participants will receive training in how to operate rowing sculls from experienced Aquatic Center staff. Sacramento State’s Aquatic Center has been providing water safety and recreation instruction for more than 25 years.

The program, which is a joint effort of the Sacramento State Aquatic Center and the Cure Breast Cancer organization, is designed to help cancer survivors enhance their survival. “The process of teamwork provides a support community for healthy living, and the healing process continues,” says event volunteer Therese Rozowski. “As a breast cancer survivor I know first hand how important it is to have a community of supporters to encourage one in their recovery.”

The cost is $10 per person and includes lunch and a t-shirt. To register or for more information, contact the Aquatic Center at (916) 278-2842.
