British folk musician comes to campus

British musician Jez Lowe, renowned among folk artists for his original pieces about the culture and society of his native Northeast England, will perform at Sacramento State in “Jez Lowe in Concert and Conversation” at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 29 in Napa Hall. His performance is part of an events series sponsored by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

Lowe’s pieces reveal themes of life in his homeland such as coal-mining villagers, country revelry and ships lost at sea. He serves as Durham County’s Composer in Residence, writing songs that chronicle local events such as the reclaiming of coastal land from pollution and the closing of the coal mines.

Lowe will perform songs from his numerous recordings and discuss the Celtic roots in his music.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute designs classes and events for students over 50 to continue the process of lifelong learning.

Tickets are $12 per person or free for institute members, and can be reserved or purchased at the door. To reserve or purchase seats, contact the College of Continuing Education at (916) 278-4433.
