Summer Concerts Sizzle
At Sacramento's Parks
Keep cool this summer with the hot sounds
of local bands at the free annual "Pops in Park"
evening concert series June 16, July 21, Aug. 4 and 18.
Innersoul - a seven-piece band with a reputation for delivering
the best in old school R&B, soul, Latin and funk music
- will perform at 6 p.m., Saturday, June 16 at East Portal
Park located at 51st and M streets. KRCA channel 3 news anchor
Kelly Brothers will emcee the concert.
Funkengruven - a musical organization dedicated to the preservation
of classic American soul, funk and R&B music from the
1970s - will perform at 6 p.m., Saturday, July 21 at McKinley
Park located at 33rd and H streets. KCRA channel 3 news anchors
Lois Hart and Dave Walker will emcee the concert and the there
will be an East Sacramento Chamber auction from 11 a.m. to
8 p.m.
Tom Rigney and Flambeau - a popular band from the San Francisco
Bay Area that plays a blend of original and traditional Cajun
dance music - will perform at 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4 at
the CSUS main quad. 100.5 The Zone radio disc jockey Marshall
Phillips will emcee the concert.
All Family Boys and the All Family Band - a local band that
plays contemporary favorites - will perform at 6 p.m., Saturday,
Aug. 18 at the Glen Hall Park located at Sandburg and Carlson
drives. City councilman Steve Cohn will emcee the concert.
Food and refreshments will be available for purchase at all
concerts and vendors include Burr's Fountain, the Italian
Importing Store, the Kiwanis Club, the Limelight Café,
Manhattan Bagel, Lovotti Brothers and Gordon Biersch. A percentage
of the proceeds from food and beverage sales will benefit
beautification projects at area parks.
The concert series is co-sponsored by California State University,
Sacramento, city councilman Steve Cohn, the East Sacramento
Chamber of Commerce, East Sacramento News, Raley's and Bel
Air, Regional Transit, Sutter Health, Arco, Bank of America,
Blue Diamond Almonds, Gatejen Real Estate, Mercy General Hospital;
as well as the River Park, Boulevard Park, East Sacramento,
Marshall School and McKinley neighborhood associations.
