Prof receives Fulbright to teach in Ukraine

Hortense Simmons, an emeritus professor of English at California State University, Sacramento, has received a prestigious Fulbright Scholar grant to teach at Ukraine’s Petro Mohyla Mykolayiv State University.

Simmons will lecture about African American literature and culture during the 2004-05 academic year.

She’ll be one of about 800 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel to some 140 countries in the coming year through the Fulbright Scholar Program. The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and has been sending Americans abroad to study, teach and conduct research for 57 years.
