Vocalist workshop encourages singers
The “Empowering Singers” workshop at Sacramento
State this summer won’t be anything like an episode of “American
Idol.” Instead of berating its singers, this vocal seminar is designed
to support and encourage their talents. The workshop begins at 6 p.m. on Friday,
August 12 and continues 8:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, August 13 and 14 in Capistrano
Hall.
The workshop will train participants in a variety of vocal disciplines including
voice, Alexander Technique, speech and acting. Working in small groups, students
will rotate among staff members who specialize in different areas throughout
the day. There will also be full-group exercises, performances, and discussions
throughout the weekend.
“Empowering Singers” is the creation of Sacramento State music professor
and renowned soprano Robin Fisher. Fisher has recruited teams of specialists
in disciplines that help singers with body tension, performance anxiety and
freedom of expression. “I’m excited to be providing the community
with an opportunity to discover new ways to realize more of their singing potential,”
she says.
Although the workshop is designed for amateur singers seeking vocal advancement,
Fisher states that novice singers are definitely welcome. “Even if you’re
just a shower singer, we can help,” she says. “Empowering Singers”
is made possible through the support of the Sacramento State School of Arts
and its faculty.
The cost is $300 per participant and there will be free parking for participants
in the parking structure adjacent from Capistrano Hall. For further information,
