Eighty-Eight keys for kids

Sacramento State will be offering lessons this fall semester for beginning piano performers. As part of her forthcoming graduate degree program, music professor Kirsten Smith will be holding a 15-week class for children age six to nine beginning the first week of the fall semester.

Instruction will focus on basic rhythmic skills and keyboard geography, as well as reading music and memorizing short songs. Sacramento State students majoring in piano will also be involved with coaching, and will provide supplemental private lessons to help reinforce material introduced in class. At the completion of the class there will be a final recital in which the children will perform duets with Sacramento State students.

Tuition for the semester is $250, all of which will be distributed within the teaching program. Enrollment is on a first-come first-served basis and there is a class maximum of 16 students. Classes will be held in the piano lab of Capistrano Hall, room 309.
