High School Equivalency Program
graduates ready for their futures

Smiles will be large and tears of happiness will be shed as California State University, Sacramento’s Cross Cultural Resource Center’s High School Equivalency Program graduates one of their largest classes Sunday, July 25 from 4-6 p.m. in the university’s Student Union Ballroom. Nearly 190 students will receive diplomas from the program which helps migrant workers finish their high school education.

After opening remarks by program director David Bayer, special guest Alejandra Bologna, consulate general of Mexico, will address the students. Following a greeting to the assembled family and friends by Cross Cultural Resource Center Director Jose Cintron, Nine student speakers will then get a chance to briefly share their thoughts. The spotlight will then fall on California State Senator Liz Figueroa who will deliver the commencement address.

Founded in 1993 with a grant from the U.S. Office of Migrant Education the CSUS-HEP program prepares migrant and seasonal agricultural workers for the federally administered General Education Diploma, or GED, examinations. Throughout their course of studies HEP also prepares students for better-paying occupations and professions through career preparation activities and gets them ready for placement in local universities, community colleges, adult schools and occupational training programs.

A reception will follow the graduation ceremony.
