Sacramento State appoints new education dean

Vanessa Sheared: dean of the College of Education

Vanessa Sheared has been named dean of the College of Education at Sacramento State. Her appointment begins Aug. 21.

Sheared comes to the University from San Francisco State University where she was associate dean of the College of Education. In that capacity, her responsibilities include coordinating credential services, accreditation, and program development and review. Prior to becoming associate dean in 2000, she was chair of San Francisco State’s Department of Administration and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Sheared holds a doctorate in adult continuing education from Northern Illinois University, a master’s degree in education and counseling from Louisiana State University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Wheaton College. Her research interests include the intersection of race, gender and politics and the impact these factors have on the teaching of learning and literacy in adult education programs.
