CSUS business students seeking internship opportunities

The California State University, Sacramento, College of Business Administration is seeking Sacramento-area employers to provide part-time internships for undergraduate and graduate business students.

Internships are a win-win for both the student and the employer. Students receive training in their chosen fields, part-time pay and academic credit along with the mentoring of the supervisor and the faculty sponsor. Employers benefit from the enthusiasm, new ideas and strong motivation students bring. And it provides an excellent avenue to recruit new talent.

Interested employers follow a few simple steps:

• Provide the student affairs office in the College with a completed internship position description form (available online at www.csus.edu/cba/studentaffairs). The work should be degree enhancing for the student, with responsibilities similar to an entry-level position in the student's area of concentration. No more than 10 percent of the work time should be devoted to clerical tasks such as photocopying, answering phones, telemarketing, door-to-door sales or filing.
  
  
• Provide hourly pay or regular salary for the student.
  
  
• Provide a minimum of 10 hours per week for an undergraduate student and 15 hours per week for a graduate student for the duration of a 15-week semester.
  
  
• Give the name of the person who will supervise the student. (The supervisor may not be a relative or spouse of the student.)
  
  
• Submit a statement to the faculty sponsor at the end of the semester, indicating whether the student completed the assignment and achieved the learning objectives. The supervisor also needs to be available for consultations with the student and the faculty sponsor.
  

Once an internship position description form is received by the College of Business Administration, it is posted both electronically and hard copy for students. Students who are interested in an internship contact the employer about the position and set up an interview.

The College offers a degree in business with concentrations in: accountancy, accounting information systems, finance, human resource management, international business, management information systems, marketing, operations management, real estate and land use affairs, risk management and insurance, and strategic management.

It's not too early to consider setting up an internship for the fall 2002 semester: Classes start Sept. 3 and end on Dec. 20.
