Parking challenges ahead for fall semester

Construction of two new structures and the resulting loss of parking spaces on campus promise to make parking a challenge at Sacramento State for the Fall 2006 semester.

With construction continuing on Parking Structure III near Hornet Stadium and a new bookstore, the campus will lose more than 1,100 parking spaces during the construction period. Completion of the new 3,000-space parking garage is anticipated by January 2007, but campus officials are warning that getting to campus and finding a parking spot will be more difficult during the fall, particularly during peak parking times, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students, faculty and staff are being urged to use off-campus parking or alternative transportation during this time. Information regarding alternate transportation can be found at www.csus.edu/utaps/commute_choices.htm. Plans have also been made for off-campus parking at the University’s Ramona Avenue lot with shuttle service to the campus. Off-campus parking will also be available within a short walking distance of the north end of the campus at the Knights of Columbus building on Newman Court and at the McAuliffe Baseball Field at the south end of campus off State University Drive East. Residents of nearby neighborhoods are also being advised of traffic and parking situations and how it may affect them.
