Hopkins named College of Health and
Human Services dean
Marilyn
Hopkins has been appointed dean of California State University,
Sacramento's College of Health and Human Services by President
Donald R. Gerth. The appointment was made effective in June.
Hopkins has been the College's interim dean since May 2000.
Prior to becoming dean, Hopkins served as the College's associate
dean and as a professor in the division of nursing. She holds
a bachelor's degree in nursing from CSUS and master's and
doctorate degrees in nursing from the University of California,
San Francisco. She is a graduate of the management development
program at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Hopkins has 23 years of teaching experience in professional
issues, ethics, research, theory development and medical-surgical
nursing. Her clinical work was in oncology and critical care.
She also has expertise in various forms of distance and distributed
education.
Hopkins is the project director for a four-year Stuart Foundation
grant to enhance inter-professional learning opportunities
for students working in the community with high-risk children
and families. In addition, she heads up a three-year AmeriCorps
grant to support mentoring programs for youths in low-performing
schools.
