Global grooves go local
Get your "global groove on" this fall to music from around the world, as Cretian composer Ross Daly and other musicians from India, Turkey and China perform at Sacramento State.
Canceled - North Indian classical music and dance group Kathakgunjan brings enchantment to the stage with singing, dancing and instrumental music at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10 in the Music Recital Hall in Capistrano Hall. Tickets are $15 general admission and $8 for students. - Canceled
Turkish group Ahenk Duo, comprised of master musicians Derya Turkan and Murat Aydemir, will perform Turkish music on the tanbur (long-necked lute) and classical kemençhe (three-stringed Turkish fiddle) at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11 in the Music Recital Hall in Capistrano Hall. The pair is recognized for their soulful performances, as well as their ingenious solo and duo takasim or improvisations. Tickets are $15 general admission and $8 for students.
The Chinese Moon Festival Concert returns to the University with Melody of China, a San Francisco-based group of musicians that learned to play traditional Chinese instruments at some of China's most prestigious universities. The troupe will perform at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 18 in the Music Recital Hall in Capistrano Hall. Tickets are $15 general admission and $8 for students.
Composer Ross Daly will perform his original compositions of Greek and Cretian music, with influences from Eastern musical traditions. Daly will perform at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8 in the Music Recital Hall in Capistrano Hall. Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for students.
