Seniors build strength at Life Center
A
variety of wellness classes for seniors are available this fall at California
State University, Sacramento’s Life Center. Classes are held at the historic
Julia Morgan House at 3731 T St.
Wellness classes include:
- “Senior
Fitness for Men,” a new, ongoing class for men 55 and older focusing
on cardiovascular, strength, balance and flexibility training offered 3:15-4:15
p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays. The cost is $45 per month.
- “Tai
Chi,” an ongoing class featuring the ancient balance, strength, flexibility,
relaxation and concentration-enhancing discipline offered 1:30-3 p.m. on Tuesdays
and Thursdays. The cost is $25 per month.
- “Balance
and Fall Risk Reduction,” a seven-week, individually programmed course
designed to improve balance and mobility offered 2-3 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays
starting Oct. 6. A second session is offered 10:45-11:45 on Tuesdays and Thursdays
beginning Oct. 7. The cost is $95 per month.
- “Meditation,”
a five-week stress-reduction meditation class offered 5:30-6:45 p.m. on Tuesdays.
A second section is offered 8-9:25 a.m. on Thursdays. The cost is $50 per
month.
- “Balance
and Strengthening,” an ongoing extension of the fall-reduction course
emphasizing strength training offered noon-1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The cost is $45 per month.
- “Stretch
and Strengthening,” an ongoing course focusing on body mechanics, posture,
balance and deep-relaxation techniques to improve overall strength and flexibility,
offered 7:30-8:30 a.m., 8:45-9:45 a.m., 10-11 a.m. and 11:05 a.m.-12:05 p.m.
on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The cost is $45 per month
- “Yoga,”
an ongoing class featuring deep-relaxation, deep-breathing and gentle yoga
techniques offered 12:15-1:15 p.m. on Mondays and 8:15-9:15 a.m. on Tuesdays.
The cost is $25 per month.
- “Strength
and Circuit Training,” an ongoing, individually programmed strength
and endurance course designed for older adults offered 4:30-5:50 p.m. and
6:30-7:30, Mondays and Wednesdays. The cost is $45 per month.
- “Fitness
for Life - Exercise for Challenged Older Adults,” an ongoing class designed
for seniors with medical challenges, such as arthritis, diabetes, high blood
pressure and stroke, offered 9:30-10:30 a.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays. The
cost is $45 per month.
