to exhibit at CSUS
by Sacramento's poet laureate Jose Montoya and the internationally
known Royal Chicano Air Force, RCAF, will be exhibited at California
State University, Sacramento's Robert Else Gallery from noon - 4:30
p.m., Monday through Friday, Sept. 16 - Oct. 15. A public reception
for the artists with live music, poetry and more will be held from
6 - 9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20 in the gallery.
The RCAF artists featured in the exhibit include works by Montoya,
Esteban Villa, Juanishi Orosco, Ricardo Favela, Louie the Foot,
Stan Padilla, Juan Cervantez, Olivia Castellano, Jose Lott, Rudy
Cuellar, Max Garcia, R.J. Rodriguez, Armando Cid, Larry Ortiz and
many students. The exhibit is part of the University's National
Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.
The RCAF is an artist collective co-founded by CSUS professors emeritus
Montoya and Villa, both of whom are educators, painters, poets,
musicians and activists. The RCAF is internationally recognized
for their murals, posters and actions that are major part of California's
Also, Montoya is the founder of the nationally recognized CSUS Barrio
Arts program and was honored as an outstanding educator by the California
Arts Council. Montoya's paintings have been exhibited around the
world and he is regularly sought out by major American and European
universities to give poetry readings. Montoya, as well as Villa
and Louie the Foot, will read poetry at 7 p.m. at the public reception
for the RCAF Exhibition.
