Media information: Sept. 24 recall debate at CSUS
State University, Sacramento and the California Broadcasters Association will
sponsor a debate among leading candidates in the state’s recall election
at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24 in the University Union Ballroom.
The debate will last for 90 minutes and will be available for all radio and
television stations. It will be offered in Spanish and closed captioned. The

Just added: On the day of the debate, CSUS faculty and other
Capital Region experts will provide briefings on topics including: Recall 101;
what each candidate needs to do to “win” the debate; and a review
of debate questions. Each of the briefings will be open to the media and the
public, and will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. in the University Library room 11.
The debate will be on monitors in the press room, and after the debate the candidates
will be invited to appear individually in the press room. Media wishing to access
the press room must be credentialed in advance.
Tickets for attendees are by invitation of the debate sponsors and the campaigns.
Many CSUS students will be among those in attendance.
Credentials: For security reasons, all media wanting access
to the press room and to the candidate’s post-debate press conferences
must be credentialed in advance. A maximum of three credentials will be given
to each media organization. Photo identification must then be presented the
day of the event. Those not credentialed in advance will not be admitted
to the press room.
Sept. 18: For media credentials, the following must be provided by
Thursday, Sept. 18: full name, date of birth, driver’s license number,
title, phone, e-mail, organization, organization’s address, newsroom phone.

Press room: On the day of the debate, a press room near the
debate venue will be available from noon to 10 p.m. for all credentialed media.
There will be monitors showing the debate, as well as a limited number of telephone
lines. No ISDN or other dedicated Internet connections will be available.

Parking for media, including television trucks, will be available in lot 6 near
the University Union on the day of the debate only, beginning at 6 a.m.
(note time change from previous advisory). The lot has a clear southern exposure.
Those wishing to access the lot must present CHP press credentials, debate credentials,
or a photo ID along with media business card. Those needing overnight accommodations
should contact area hotels. The Sacramento Hilton and Red Lion have announced
packages for crews and trucks.
to lot 6, exit Highway 50 at Howe Ave./Power Inn. From the east, go
straight through to College Town Drive. From the west, go under the freeway
and make a left on College Town Drive. The road will turn into State University
Drive South. Go just past the information booth and turn right on Stadium Drive.
Then go past the stadium and follow the road at it curves right. Lot 6 will
be on the left. From the J Street entrance follow the loop road to State University
Drive South on the other side of campus.
